Fiddle-Fart: Techno Edition

So, after spending some quality time on the phone with Kodak, no dice. They are mailing me a CD to update the software. Meantime, I decided there must be a way to load new photos in absence of the "Easyshare." There is. You probably already knew that, but it was a discovery for me!

Without further ado:

Mrs. Feezy's second sock!
It will eventually get mailed to you, Feez, so Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday and all that jazz!

Pattern: Log Cabin Socks from Handknit Holidays
Yarn: Bernat Denimstyle in Polo, 2 skeins.
Needles: US 5
Comments: Yeouch! Denimstyle has no resilience, so was a total PITA to cable with, especially at this tight of a gauge. Worth it for you, though, F! And, another Holiday Hangover is done and gone! All that's left is the second half of Skippy's scarf!

Here is a photo of the Monkey sock in Fire (ooh! Flaming Monkeys!)

The heel has since been turned and the gusset is decreased. I can't wait to wear these!

And here is the knitaround ad nauseum. The more I look at it, the more I think maybe I was thinking Seurat instead of Monet. Well, they're both good.

But not as good as this:
It even comes with patterns for a little afghan and throw pillows! I love how the cat on the cover seems to fully realize the humiliation of his situation.

The Thing About Socks

I really love a good, handknit sock. I love making them, I love wearing them. At knit nite the other week, everyone around the table was working on socks or handwarmers, it was an impromptu evening of extremities, and someone remarked that I must have a ton of socks (since I love knitting them, and more often than not have one on the needles), and I had to admit it.

I have three pair of handknit socks (and my Jaywalkers are currently MIA, so it's more like two pair). That's all. I had four, but the pair my mom made me years ago have given up the ghost.

I have knit maybe two dozen pair of socks, so there's plenty of sockie love floating around out there, (particularly in the DH's sock drawer) but the fact is, for all the sock knitting I do, I have pitifully little to show for it. I'm not complaining, I just think it's a little odd. Maybe I should make myself a pair of socks, eh?

Just as soon as I finish this:

Autumn In Oregon sock, solid version.
Designed by Chrissy Gardiner
Available for purchase here.

I honestly can't imagine you aren't intrigued by now. This is a really beautiful sock with a bit of unique construction tossed into the mix. I'll be turning the heel shortly and then zooming down the homestretch, hoping to have it in the mail by week's end so it can have its Glamorshots taken!

Me and My Demands...

But really, is a little good news too much to ask?

There is an envelope on the kitchen counter.
It is addressed to the DH.
It is from the people he recently applied to.

Shit.

ETA: The rejection letter included a nice, handwritten Post-It that they are considering him for another position. The finger-crossing continues...

You Learn Something New Every Day!

Like the fact that manatees have fingernails and prehensile snouts! (Thanks, LeVar! You didn't think I was actually researching aquatic mammals, did you?) I also learned just yesterday how to cable without a cable needle! I practiced my new skill on this:

and, I must say, the cabling I did for this was neater and I had to invest far less effort to avoid gaps than when I've used a cable needle. I also decided to practice combined knitting on this swatch. Fun! I may just have to compose a little love letter to Annie Modesitt.

More later. There are some other (non-knitting) things brewing here chez Bitter.

Oh, and the final count for Sweaterwatch 2007? Five. Consecutive. Days. Next up for the DH? Perhaps Avast? Any thoughts?
